The Scotch Whisky Association has announced that it has recruited a former UK Government ambassador to replace outgoing chief executive Gavin Hewitt.

David Frost – director for Europe, Trade and International Affairs at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) – will fill the key post at the end of the year. In his role in BIS, the civil servant has been the senior official responsible for the UK’s trade policy, working closely with the EU Commission and a wide range of commercial and trade bodies.

Last night he said he could not wait to start his new job. “My career to date working in economic, trade, and EU affairs in the UK and overseas has given me a wealth of experience of global commercial issues which will stand me in good stead in my new role in the Scotch Whisky industry,” he said.
