Clegg demands all parties unite to boost Scotland
Nick Clegg has called for pro-UK parties to join forces to deliver a raft of new powers for Holyrood – claiming Scotland is on the brink of “home rule”.
Speaking in Glasgow with exactly one year to go until the historic independence referendum, the Liberal Democrat leader insisted Scots do not face a choice between “breaking the bond or keeping the status quo”.
He characterised the debate as a battle between building walls or achieving the traditional Liberal goal of federal home rule, promising the nation a “new settlement” if voters decide to stay in the union.
