‘Lives at risk’ over fire closures
Politicians have warned lives will be put at risk if fire brigade control centres in the north and north-east are closed.
Aberdeen Central SNP MSP Kevin Stewart has branded the proposal “illogical”. And the city’s deputy provost, John Reynolds, accused bosses at the new national service of “asset stripping” and waging a “vendetta” against the north-east.
Former Grampian Joint Fire and Rescue Board convener Mike Raeburn also said he feared local knowledge would be lost if 999 calls were handled by staff based outside the region.
