Vernon’s treble has Dons in the hat for last eight
No cup shock, just a stunning display of attacking football as Aberdeen dispatched Falkirk to reach the last eight of the League Cup in style last night.
Joe Shaughnessy and Cammy Smith had Aber-deen two up at the break but first-half substitute Scott Vernon was the star man with a second half hat-trick, including one from the penalty spot.
After suffering a multitude of cup upsets to lower league opposition in the past, there was only ever going to be one winner at Falkirk Stadium and, with Celtic out the competition, the Dons must surely be one of the favourites to reach the Hampden final.
