A Dons red card that turned up trumps
A brave 10-man Aberdeen kept their hopes of ending an 18-year wait for a trophy well and truly alive after defeating Motherwell 2-0 at Fir Park in an absorbing League Cup quarter-final at Fir Park last night.
The Dons were forced to play the majority of the match with only 10 men after defender Joe Shaughnessy was controversially sent off after only 13 minutes for a late challenge on Zaine Francis-Angol.
Clark Robertson was also stretchered off just before the break but, despite the setbacks, the Aberdeen side battled admirably against a Motherwell side that struggled to make the most of the extra man.
