Bail hope for Scot in Indian ‘hellhole’
A FORMER soldier was poised last night to be released from a “hellhole” jail in India.
Billy Irving’s family had all but cancelled their Christmas and New Year celebrations as he languished in Puzhal prison. He was arrested while working as a maritime security guard protecting commercial shipping from pirates.
The 33-year-old former paratrooper was heading back to his home in Argyll in October when he and everyone else on board the Seaman Guard Ohio were detained amid allegations that they were carrying arms illegally.
