Flood alert as town gets ready to party

STONEHAVEN was on flood alert last night as 15,000 revellers were preparing to flock to the town centre today for its double Hogmanay celebrations.

A sell-out crowd of more than 5,100 people has bought tickets to see Simple Minds headline the Open Air in the Square concert while 10,000 onlookers are due to line the streets of the old town to watch the traditional fireball ceremony.

But local residents were last night praying for the rain to stop as final preparations were being made.
