Patience takes golden shot with new partner in Willis
Aberdeen’s Luke Patience has teamed up with Elliot Willis for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and believes he has a realistic shot at improving on the sailing silver won in London two years ago.
Patience’s 470 partner, Joe Glanfield, a double Olympic silver medallist from 2004 and 2008, last week announced his retirement due to family commitments.
It left Patience with some soul-searching to do as to whether to press on and look for a new crew. The chance to become Great Britain’s first gold medallist in the class meant he did not need long to make his decision and he has teamed up with two-time 470 world champion Willis, from Kent, to get his tilt at glory back on track.
