Opening up the Highlands

Published:

COTTAGES and Castles, Scotland’s specialist holiday lettings company, has announced a dramatic increase in lettings taken during the first two months of the year from last year’s figures.

Cottages and Castles, run by the partners of property consultancy CKD Galbraith, has seen its figures rise this year with a 30% increase in January and February’s cottage lettings. This figure is for bookings placed for the year ahead with the north of Scotland, primarily in Ross-shire, Inverness-shire and Sutherland, experiencing the increase.

Sue Bourne, manager of Cottages and Castles, believes that easier access to the Highlands provided by frequent, low-cost flights, as well as the enduring appeal of the Scottish landscape, could be a contributing factor to the increase in self-catering holidaymakers.

Flybe has been offering flights to Inverness from major English cities since March 2007 and its routes are helping to increase the Highland tourist industry.

New on the books of Cottages and Castles is Balachladdich House, a mere 30 minutes’ drive from Inverness in the peaceful and tranquil setting of Evanton, Ross-shire. The house is beautifully furnished and boasts glorious views overlooking the Cromarty Firth.

Another property, Red Kite House, is a spectacular and beautiful historic house which has been renovated recently to exceptionally high standards. Located in the Black Isle only 20 minutes from Inverness Airport, the house is in a private estate offering numerous walks and an abundance of wildlife.
