A SKYE-BASED painter and sculptor will exhibit his work at an Inverness-shire gallery later this week.

James Adams works from his studio at Broadford, Skye, and his creations will form part of the latest exhibition at the Inchmore Gallery.

Alongside the 36-year-old’s work will be mono prints and copper etchings by Sandy McEwan and pop-art influenced pieces from Pamela and Erlend Tait.

Mr Adams, who moved to Skye last year when he got married, said his work tries to break down the relationship between subject and viewer.

He said: “The paintings are based around my experiences. Many of them are taken from when I am sea kayaking.

“But I live in an area surrounded by hills, so they also play a big part, as do houses.

“There are also sculptures in the exhibition. I worked as a blacksmith until about a year-and-a-half ago, but I still keep my hand in.”

The expectant father added that his biggest influence is Cornish artist Alfred Wallace.

Wallace, who died in 1942, was renowned for his naïve art paintings — where perspective is ignored and an object's scale is often based on its relative importance in the scene.

The exhibition, which is open daily from 10am to 5pm (except Tuesdays), will run until May 4.
