Churches mark start of Easter Week

A DONKEY led a procession through Aberdeen to mark the start of Easter Week yesterday.
Ministers and the congregations from two Aberdeen churches followed Porridge the donkey as a reminder of Jesus’s passage into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the start of the most holy week in the church calendar.
The procession started at St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Carden Place and paraded through local streets to St James’s Episcopal Church at Holburn Junction.
The Rev Max Paterson, of St James’s, said: “This is one way of bringing the meaning of Holy Week to the attention not only of church people but also the wider world. The entry of Jesus into Jerusalem that first Palm Sunday was not only a procession of triumph but also of joy and humility. Porridge is a great character in his own right, very good tempered and loves children.”
Mr Paterson was joined by the Rev Graham Taylor, of St Mary’s.
