WHILE you’re probably pretty savvy by now about “the birds and the bees”, you may not have thought about letting winged creatures fly free in your home.

But, this spring, it’s fashionable to set your rooms aflutter with furnishings and accessories decorated with wildlife – from butterflies to birds – or even going truly rural and accommodating some cows too.

1 Just because you’re not surrounded by rolling fields doesn’t mean you can’t conjure a country atmosphere indoors. Accommodate a grazing cow (without all the hard work) with funky storage. An Animastore KS cupboard is decorated with a huge photographic image of a cow. It comes pre-assembled or as a flat-pack from Espacio, with prices from £504. Visit www.espacio.co.uk for details.

2 Bird-shaped magnetic boards are a handy roost for messages or pictures. Choose from a white dove or a bluebird, or treat yourself to a whole flock. This steel notice board costs £34.99 from www.beyondthefridge.co.uk

3 Brighten your sofa or bed with some cushions. Virgin Vie’s Mandalay range is embroidered with glowing pink butterflies. The cushion costs £20 and table runners and napkins are also available. See www.virginvieathome.com

4 Keep an eye on the time with this Graham & Green ceramic clock decorated with dragonflies, £18. Visit www.grahamandgreen.co.uk or call 0845 130 6622 for more information.

5 These mirrored bird-shaped wall hooks, which cost £8.75 each from Graham & Green, will help de-clutter your home. See www.grahamandgreen.co.uk

6 There’s a swarm of decorative butterfly accessories at Laura Ashley designed to bring your garden alive in an instant. These butterfly and flower lights and garden sign will brighten indoors or out. The Ivory flower lights cost £22; the silver metal-etched butterfly lights £22, and the cream wooden butterfly garden sign £5. Visit www.lauraashley.com
