Ice queen Lockhart secures top city award

CURLER Jackie Lockhart last night collected the City of Aberdeen sports person of the year award for 2007.
Lockhart, playing out of Curl Aberdeen, was part of the Scottish championship-winning rink in February last year as well as earning a bronze medal in the world championships in Japan and silver in the European championships in Germany.
She pipped triathlete Scott Neyedli to the main prize after his successful year on the world ironman circuit.
Swimmer David Carry, fresh from earning his place in the GB team for the Olympics this summer, was third in the voting.
Lord Provost Peter Stephen said: “Aberdeen’s top athletes have been a real inspiration to our sports stars of the future. I would like to offer my congratulations and my thanks for projecting Aberdeen internationally.”
Rising tennis star Joanna Henderson was awarded the Chris Anderson Trust gold medal, while Catriona Morrison’s efforts in pistol shooting won her a silver medal along with hockey player Louise Fleming, judo player Dale Findlay, athlete Eleanor Workman and Elgin gymnast Holly Cantril.
