THE Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust in Aberdeen has given a major boost to two charities – thanks to a black-tie ball at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel at Blairs.

More than 270 enjoyed the Diamond Ball and about £30,000 will be shared between the urological cancer charity, Ucan, and Marie Curie Cancer Care, which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year.

Patrons contributed £11,500 of the total at an auction, with top price of £2,250 being paid for an original painting of a French scene by artist William Foreman.

Although based near Bordeaux, he is living in Aboyne at present.

The ball was sponsored by BP and dancing was to a noisy and exuberant 11-piece London band, Souled Out.
