Cooking champions

CRAIG Wilson, award-winning chef and proprietor of Eat on the Green restaurant, will be entertaining the crowds in a Ready Steady Cook-style challenge at his Food & Fun Day in Udny Green tomorrow.
He will go head to head with George McIvor, chairman of the Master Chefs of Great Britain, to impress the audience with his impromptu dish. Two audience members will be selected to assist the chefs in the “Neeps versus the Sprouts” competition when the show kicks off at 2pm in the village hall.
TV presenter and local resident Sarah Mack will compere the show, which promises to be a headline attraction on the day.
This is just one aspect of the Food & Fun Day, organised by Craig in support of his ambitious pledge to raise £10,000 this year for Breast Cancer Care.
Craig has already raised £6,000 with the help of his friends, family and patrons and believes he will smash his £10,000 target before the year is out. The event will run from 11am until 4pm and is also about bringing a local community together to have fun and promote good food and good health.
The community element is a strong driver for the two main competitions of the day – the “healthiest children’s lunchbox competition”, to be judged by First Minister Alex Salmond, and Aberdeenshire’s “best sticky toffee pudding competition”, to be judged by Mr Ross, of baker JG Ross. Entries must be in by noon on the day to Udny Green Primary School and the village hall.
Other special guests on the day include Aberdeen Football Club mascot Angus the Bull and Jenna Cameron, a talented singer and emerging star from the north-east.
Craig said: “The list of attractions just keeps growing and now includes a farmers’ market, gourmet barbecue, marquee bar, bouncy castle, arts and crafts fair, stage with live entertainment, Bobby the Playbus, health and wellbeing market, and too many more to mention.”
The Eat on the Green restaurant will be transformed into a decadent VIP lounge for those wishing to splash out £25 a ticket and enjoy champagne, canapes and light entertainment.
Entry to the Food & Fun Day is free and parking is available for £1. Tickets for the Ready Steady Cook-style challenge cost £5 and are available by calling 01651 842337, or e-mailing enquiries@ eatonthegreen.co.uk.
