Three north-east martial arts players will fly out to Poland on Tuesday for the European tae kwon do championships.

Jamie Presly, Alison Ogley and Andy O’Hare of the Gordon Wallace Tae Kwon Do Centre in Aberdeen, will represent Scotland in the championships in Wroclaw from May 16 to 18.

Chief instructor Wallace hopes his students will be rewarded for their train- ing efforts in Poland next week.

He said: “The three of them have been training with the national training centre every two weeks, but they have also been training privately with me.

“Jamie has done a lot of work this year. He was 96kg at the start of the year, but he had set his sights on the under-80kg category and has trained hard to get into shape for the event.

“I’ve no idea how well they will do as it all depends on who they meet in the first round. Every fight they have will be against champions of another country and there will be no easy bouts. It will come down to who handles their nerves the best.

“Andy has taken part before, while Jamie is just back from Sweden. It is Alison’s first event of this magnitude, but I am sure she will handle herself well.”
