Scone artist back on home ground
touring solo exhibition stops at perth museum and gallery

THE work of a Scone artist is back on home ground as part of a touring exhibition hosted by Perth Museum and Art Gallery.
The pieces by Paul Reid have been brought to the town as part of this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts.
Mr Reid, who was born in the area and grew up at Scone, studied at Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
He graduated in 1988 and was awarded the prestigious Carnegie Trust Vacation and John Kinross scholarships.
His themes are drawn from Greek mythology but have his own twist on them, and his personalised interpretations of ancient myths have attracted a growing and enthusiastic audience.
Critics have commented that his work tends to reject the values of contemporary art, instead paying homage to the Renaissance masters.
For the past two years, Mr Reid has been working on a series of paintings based on the Minotaur, a creature that was part man and part bull in Greek mythology. The paintings will form the basis of the exhibition.
The exhibition was originated by the 108 Fine Art Gallery in Harrogate and is the first touring solo exhibition of his work.
Two pieces from the museum and art gallery’s own collection of Mr Reid’s work also feature in the exhibition, including a spontaneous self-portrait.
Paul Reid: Paintings and Drawings runs from today until Saturday, July 5, in Gallery Three at Perth Museum and Art Gallery, George Street.
The museum is open Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm, Sunday 1-4pm, until September. Admission is free.
