NEALE Cooper aims to celebrate being named permanent Peterhead manager with the signing of three players for next season.

The former Ross County manager, who has been caretaker manager since January, has signed a two-year contract at Balmoor.

He immediately got down to work to try to persuade released Aberdeen trio of Neil McVitie, David Ross and Martin Skinner to join the Blue Toon.

Cooper, who this weekend is taking part in 25th anniversary celebrations of Aberdeen’s European Cup-Winners’ Cup triumph, said: “I am delighted to sign the deal.

“I have enjoyed being at the club and am chuffed to bits the club have appreciated what I have done.

“We just came up short for the play-offs but now we can start planning for the future, short and long term.

“I will also continue working on the commercial side of the club.

“That is something that has been a bit of a learning curve for me but I have enjoyed it.

“We are hoping to get Neil, David and Martin tied up in the next week or so.

“They would be great additions to the squad. The players here have really responded and we only need to add one or two additions and we will be in decent shape.”

Cooper admitted he is looking forward to going down memory lane with his old Aberdeen team-mates as they mark the silver anniversary of their victory in Gothenburg.

There was a dinner held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre last night when the Gothenburg side was inducted into the Aberdeen city sporting hall of fame.

Another dinner is planned for this evening at the same venue and then tomorrow more than 1,000 will join the players in watching a re-run of the 1983 final.

Cooper said: “It is great to meet up with everyone again and it brings back great memories. It was such a remarkable achievement really. It shows what it means to everyone, from the players involved to the club and the supporters, with all of these events to mark the 25th anniversary.”
