The SPL season is heading for a tumultuous climax but, when it’s all over, Aberdeen winger Jeffrey de Visscher won’t be thinking of relaxing for too long.

The Dutchman yesterday reflected on a season of massive personal disappointment at Pittodrie and he plans on making the most of his enforced stay in Holland in the close season in a bid to prove his worth to the Dons next term.

He said: “This season has not been what I expected at all. Every time I came back into the team I got injured again. I feel as if I have been chasing my fitness all season.

“It hasn’t been nice and when I see myself playing football on the telly I don’t see the player of the last three years and I am not happy with it at all.

“I played a few decent games but I can do much more and I know that. It is not something I can fix by talking about it in the press – it’s something I have to address myself and I plan on doing that in the summer. I will be back for pre-season training stronger than last year. I have contacted a few guys who I played with in Holland and I will be training all summer.

“My wife is pregnant and is due to give birth on July 16, which means she is not allowed to fly.

“We will be back home this summer and I will rest for a few days and then start my training from there.”

Despite his personal season of disappointment, de Visscher hopes to play his part in the final two games by helping Aberdeen claim third place. The Scottish Cup semi-final defeat by Queen of the South appeared to close the door on Aberdeen’s hopes of a return to Europe.

But today’s opponents Motherwell have not secured third place and the Dons have fresh hope.

De Visscher is confident of taking the race for Europe to the final day of the campaign by beating the Steelmen at Fir Park today.

He said: “Everybody is beatable. The last games I saw Motherwell play, they were winning games easily and they were a better team than us.

“Now though, it is all about the prizes and we are ready for the game. We have a really good chance.

“It is win-or-bust for us and our last chance to get a prize this year of European football.

“We threw away a big chance against Queen of the South and I think every player has had that cup disappointment in the back of his mind.”
