A TROUPE of professional storytellers switched roles and turned audience yesterday to sit in on a performance by a group of youngsters from Aberdeen.

The Causewayend Primary School pupils put on a performance of The Chief o’ Mount Hooly and were watched by four storytellers currently performing in The Emperor’s New Kilt at the city’s HM Theatre. Andy Cannon, Louise Montgomery, Stewart Cairns and Alan Steele sat in on the play which saw the pupils perform their own take on The Emperor’s New Kilt.

Their production tells the story of the Chief of Mount Hooly who likes to wear a kilt to keep him safe from harm and to camouflage him from any dangers. The children worked with Scots poet and writer Sheena Blackhall to create the production and earlier in the day, the children went to the theatre to see the professionals at work.

“Causewayend pupils pulled out the stops to make their own version of The Emperor’s New Kilt,” said Ms Blackhall. “Pupils and teacher are to be commended for their hard work.”
