Golden Grainger does it again

Published:

CONGRATULATIONS are due for Aberdeen’s Katherine Grainger after she won gold at the rowing World Cup for the fourth successive year.

What a remarkable achievement, I cannot praise her highly enough.

It takes a serious amount of dedication to reach the summit of your sport and perhaps even more in individual disciplines.

I thought it was extremely hard to make it as a professional footballer, but I think it is even harder if you are on your own.

It is easier when you have a team to fall back on or to drag you along at times, but in sports such as rowing you have to spend a lot of time training on your own or with just your coach.

It takes an incredible amount of self-motivation to get up at 6am in those winter months to go to training.

To remain at the top for such a long period of time deserves no end of admiration and hopefully she can go on and claim gold at the Beijing Olympics this summer.
