Low’s dream of Scotland tour debut in tatters

TORPHINS-BORN PROP SUFFERS AN ANKLE INJURY PLAYING FOR GLASGOW WARRIORS

Moray Low will miss out on a Scotland debut after injury ruled him out of next month’s tour of Argentina.

The Torphins-born prop suffered an ankle injury in Glasgow Warriors Magners League victory against Munster on Saturday and will be out for around six weeks.

The uncapped 23-year-old had been pencilled in to play some part for Frank Hadden’s side in the two-Test series in South America against the Pumas, who finished third in last year’s World Cup.

Scotland will take on Argentina in Rosario on June 7 and then again in Buenos Aires on June 14.

Scotland team doctor James Robson said: “Moray will be subject to further assessment, but on reviewing the X-ray he will be in a compression boot for two weeks then undergo a period of rehabilitation of between four to six weeks, which will rule him out of the tour.”

Low has been an ever-present for Glasgow in their domestic campaign and forced his way to the fringes of the Scotland side during the six nations championships earlier in the year.

Edinburgh’s 25-cap prop Craig Smith has been promoted from the Scotland A squad as a replacement.

Head coach Hadden has also called up Glasgow’s uncapped back Max Evans to join brother Thom in the squad.

Hadden said: “Max has played well in the Magners League for Glasgow and is another to have benefited from involvement with both Scotland A and Scotland 7s.

“We are still waiting to see if Simon Webster will recover from his hamstring injury to make the tour.”

Former Aberdeen Wanderer Jason While also misses the trip through injury and there is no place for former Gordonians scrum half Chris Cusiter.
