North-south tug o war for Barrowman

wanted staggies striker could reject both county and caley thistle

ROSS County striker Andy Barrowman could snub contract offers from both the Staggies and Caley Thistle in favour of a move back to England.

County’s leading scorer – he bagged 29 last season – is out of contract and has attracted plenty of interest from both north and south of the border.

Barrowman, 23, began his career at Birmingham City and had loan spells at Crewe, Blackpool and Mansfield before leaving Birmingham without making the step up to the first team.

A short period at Walsall was followed by disappointing stints at Kilmarnock and Queen of the South before his breakthrough season at County.

As well as clubs from the English second and third tiers, other SPL sides have also registered an interest in the Wishaw-born player.

Barrowman will go on holiday next Thursday, but will decide before then which club he wants to play for.

He said: “Inverness have made an offer and it is just a case of considering all my options and making a decision.

“I have not ruled out staying at Ross County and they have also made me a very good offer. They are still high on my list of options.

“I liked staying in Inverness and my football was going well and everything fell into place.

“It is a lovely place to live and I had a nice house there as well. It would not be a problem going back up there.

“It is not the case I want to get back down the road. It will be purely a footballing decision. It is an easy problem to have although it is a big decision in my career and I just want to make sure I get it right. I don’t want to rush into anything, which is why I am taking my time and thinking it through.

“It is still a work in progress at the moment and hopefully it will be done and dusted in the next week. I go on holiday in a week’s time and I would like to have it sorted by then.

“There are a few options in England and clubs in the Championship and League One have expressed an interest. The Championship would be my preferred option, as I would like to play at the highest level I can.

“My agent, Blair Morgan, is doing his job well, but a lot of people have contacted him, so other people must have looked at my goalscoring record – which is a good thing.”
