Water-pipe vandals force school to close
Police launch hunt for culprits

POLICE are hunting vandals who damaged a water pipe, draining supply to Bridge of Don Academy and forcing the school to close on Monday.
The culprits targeted an old water pipe on the demolition site of the former Upper Westfield Primary School on Braehead Way, next to the school some time between 5.30pm and 6pm on Saturday.
That led to a build-up of water, most of which was dispersed in nearby drains. Technicians switched off the water supply on Sunday.
Constable Malcolm Grant, from Danestone police office, said: “No damage was caused to Bridge of Don Academy or any of the buildings located nearby. It was the suspension of the water supply combined with the normal use of facilities at the school over the weekend that led to the shortage of water at the academy and the need for its closure.”
Constable Grant appealed for witnesses to the incident, in particular sightings of an adult and several children seen in the area of the school. It is believed they may have been travelling in two silver people carriers. He added: “The disruption to the normal school day shows the effects of mindless vandalism, and the only positive note is that the scheduled exams went ahead unhindered. Demolition sites are dangerous and in this case the persons involved have overcome competent security, risking their own safety before carrying out this reckless act.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 600 5 700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
