Ritchie surprised by Arbroath’s table position

ARBROATH United batsman Kevin Ritchie made a double-take when he looked at the SNCL First Division league table before tomorrow’s match at West of Scotland.
United have reached the lofty heights of second in the table after back-to-back victories against Stirling County and Stenhousemuir.
The solid start to the campaign is a marked contrast to last season when Arbroath lost four of their opening five matches.
Ritchie scored 34 against Stirling County last week before getting three for 45 with the ball to remove the visitors’ tail.
He said: “I had not seen the table but looked this week and could not believe we were up to second place.
“Last season we made a horrendous start and we were always playing catch-up. It is great we have got a few wins under our belts.”
Arbroath will not have it all their own way as they look to make it three in a row.
West of Scotland were rele-gated from the Premier Division last season and only the weather has prevented them from being higher up the table than fourth.
Ritchie is unavailable for tomorrow’s match and will be replaced by Matthew Parker. Captain Greg Peal is hoping to return after injury.
