Mitchell earns prestigious scholarship

TOMMY Mitchell, from Old Deer, near Mintlaw, has earned a prestigious golf scholarship at Rice University in Texas.
Mitchell attended Mintlaw Academy before finishing his secondary education at The Woodlands College Park High School in Houston, where he was named the Montgomery County scholar-athlete of the year for golf. Before moving to America with his family in 2005, Mitchell was a winner of the north-east under-14 cham- pionship
Banchory member Jim Smith achieved his first hole in one at the 88yard 16th using a nine iron. His playing partners were John Armstrong and Sandy Duguid.
Letham Grange member James Milne aced the 141yd 11th hole at Cruden Bay using a rescue club. He was playing with Mike Keddie, Dick Hardie and Dave Wood.
Buckpool member Gary Smith holed his tee shot at the 214yd 15th hole using a three wood. His playing partner was Ross Andrew.
