Tayside bikers urged to stick to speed limits

New mobile camera will be able to identify motorcyclists going too fast

MOTORCYCLISTS heading out on Tayside roads this summer are being warned to abide by speed limits.

Tayside Safety Camera Partnership yesterday joined road policing officers for the launch of an annual motorcycle campaign. Bikers are being offered advice and information on road safety as part of the campaign, which aims to enforce speed limits and reduce the number of accidents across the region.

The initiative coincides with the introduction of a new mobile camera designed to identify speeding motorcyclists. Officers will be using a Commander-system camera alongside existing mobile units to provide 360-degree vision around the camera van.

The system is designed to identify motorcyclists breaking traffic laws by recording images when the bike passes the camera vehicle.

A partnership spokeswoman said: “Tayside is an extremely popular region for bikers, who make extensive use of our country roads, particularly in Perth and Kinross.

“The partnership wants to ensure that bikers in Tayside enjoy the roads this summer, but that they stay safe at all times.

“Our campaign material and the presence of the Commander system will encourage safer, more responsible use of our roads and help us detect irresponsible riders.”
