Taking in the culture

Published: 16/05/2008

POLAND offers the best value for money for those seeking a short city break to enjoy museums, galleries and heritage sites, according to a Post Office survey. A weekend in Warsaw costs just £75, compared with £260 in New York or Barcelona and an eye-watering £308 in London, according to the report.

The costs were based on the assumption that visitors would visit galleries during the day and opera or ballet at night. Until now, we have assumed that the huge influx of Poles into Britain was for economic reasons. Perhaps it was really to escape the invasion of the culture vultures.

Why is the P&J calling Polish Art "carrion"? That's what the vultures feed on. If it is a tongue in cheek joke, is a tasteless one. The Polish Consulate should officially complaint.
