Turriff groups get makeover offer from supermarket

RETAIL giant Somerfield will officially unveil a £600,000 refurbishment of one of its stores at Turriff next week.
The supermarket chain has upgraded the outlet, on High Street, as part of a strategy to improve its convenience stores.
The new-look shop offers an extended range of fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, sandwiches and newspapers.
It also now boasts an in-store bakery, hot chicken counter and chilled wine cabinet, in addition to a core range of food products. To mark the transformation, the company has organised a competition to find a deserving local cause or group to win a one- off makeover worth £250.
It is open to any group at Turriff and applicants must make a case for the money in 50 words or less.
Manager Edmund Strachan said: “If a sports team needs some funds for a new kit, or a local mother and baby group needs some new toys, we want to know about it.”
Groups should apply to the Somerfield Turriff Makeover Competition, Somerfield Press Office, Somerfield House, Whitchurch Lane, Bristol, by June 18.
The revamped Turriff store, which employs 80 people, will be officially launched next Wednesday.
