LOCAL talent will be showcased at this year’s Inverness Highland Games, organisers revealed yesterday.

In the build-up to The Proclaimers concert at Bught Park on Sunday, July 20, local bands will take to the stage.

Local musician Ben Hesling has been asked to organise the Youth Voice Showcase, which will feature a series of concerts by local teenage bands on Sunday afternoon in the Tulloch’s Traditional Music tent, beginning at noon.

This will be followed by two shows in the giant Clan Village tent, featuring Inverness bands Lowtide Revelry and The Jyrojets which will entertain the fans arriving for the opening of the giant marquee that will house The Proclaimers concert at 6pm.

The Proclaimers will perform in the Big Top at Bught Park on the Sunday evening, along with special guests This R 2 Tone and Vincent and the Villains.

As well as being a grand finale to the two-day Inverness Highland Games, the gig is the final Proclaimers show of a 123-date world tour, which kicked off last summer.

This year has seen Auchtermuchty brothers gigging extensively in Europe, the US and Canada before returning for a number of summer European festival appearances, including Glastonbury.

They then end the tour with two spectacular Scottish concerts at Edinburgh Castle on the July 19 followed by the special Inverness concert.

Last year The Proclaimers enjoyed a UK number one with the Comic Relief release of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), their Best Of went platinum and they followed this up with the album Life With You, which saw them enjoy some of the greatest critical and commercial success of their careers. The album went silver by the end of the year, and is still going strong.

Proclaimer Craig said: “Inverness was one off the most important cities in the early live development of The Proclaimers, and we are absolutely delighted to be playing this historic city and this fantastic tented venue.”
