Brewster hopes win can put inconsistent Inverness in the money

CALEY Thistle manager Craig Brewster says his side’s inconsistent form has been a constant source of frustration this season.

Entering the last game of the season against St Mirren this afternoon Caley Jags know a victory will mean a ninth-place finish in the SPL.

After chasing a place in the division’s top six for the first time, Inverness have been forced to settle for another campaign in the league’s lower half after a poor run of seven straight defeats.

The difference between finishing ninth and 10th is in the region of £60,000 and Brewster outlined what a win today would mean.

He said: “There are financial implications and we know where we want to finish. It is a very important game, we need to send the supporters home happy.

“We have had an up-and-down season. The killer part was losing seven games on the bounce. After winning seven games out of nine we were flying, but there is very little between a lot of teams in the league and there is a close line between winning and losing.

“The middle of the season was fantastic where everything we seemed to do went well but then we had a disappointing run.

“We came through it well, but Hearts found themselves in the bottom six and they are a big club which shows it is a tough league.”

Brewster has not had any offers for any of his players despite reported interest in forward Graham Bayne from St Johnstone and Dunfermline.

The Caley Jags manager plans to resume talks with out of contract forward Dennis Wyness, who is a target for St Mirren, next week.

He said: “There is nothing on the Graham Bayne situation and no other managers have spoken to me about any of my players.

“I spoke to Dennis briefly and I will speak to him again next week. I realise clubs are keen on Dennis and he is entitled to speak to them.”

Captain Grant Munro had a scan on a groin injury this week and the club are waiting for the results to establish how long the player will be sidelined.
