Name: Angus Flett

Age: 23

From: Helmsdale, Sutherland

Occupation: Barman

Entered the competition: To win the car and become a better driver

On Knockhill, he said: “The skid pan was good, but I learned more from the police drive. It taught me a lot about what to look for on the road and it’s going to make me much more aware when I’m driving. The highlight for me was going round the track. It has been a very worthwhile experience and I’m definitely going to go on and do my advanced IAM driving test.”

Name: Ben Laing

Age: 22

From: Elgin

Occupation: Storeman

Entered the competition: To win the car and use it to teach another young generation of young drivers once he passes the Driving Standards Agency’s driving instructor test

On Knockhill, he said: “It has been great fun. As long as you listen to what the instructors are telling you, you can’t go wrong. The police drive was very interesting and it was good to find out more about their way of driving. I think the track was the winner for me, but the whole day has been really enjoyable and really informative as well. It has been an excellent challenge.”

Name: Claire McBean

Age: 19

From: Inverness

Occupation: Student nurse at the University of Highlands and Islands

Entered the competition: To improve her driving skills

On Knockhill, she said: “It has been a really positive experience. I think the skid pan was good because it gave me a better understanding of what to do if it does happen to me. The police drive also showed you just how far ahead you can look. It really opened my eyes. I’m just glad to have got this far. The whole day out and learning is more important than winning the car. It’s been fantastic.”

Name: Maximillian Karl Schneider

Age: 20

From: Balmedie

Occupation: Bike shop assistant. Going to Edinburgh University to study PE in September

Entered the competition: To prove there are responsible young drivers out there

On Knockhill, he said: “I learned a lot from the police commentary on the road assessment – I’ll definitely incorporate the way the police drive, especially learning to look ahead to the horizon so you can anticipate anything. Hopefully, we won’t need to use many of the reactive methods we’ve learned by driving safely first, but at least we will all know how to react if we ever end up in a dangerous situation.”
