Euro 2008

Goalkeepers go football crazy

Published: 07/06/2008

JUST when you thought that football was off our television screens until next season, along comes one of the biggest tournaments in the world. The first balls will be kicked in Euro 2008 this weekend, and if the goalkeepers are right they will swerve and duck like a drunk wasp.

Yet again the quality of the tournament ball has been called into question. It is too light, with too little wind resistance and swerves in flight.

So when that 30-yard blooter goes into the top corner it will be a fluke and have nothing to do with skill. It is the same in playgrounds all over the world.
