Long-distance Rally aims to raise funds to buy cattle for poor farmers
Moray RAF pair take tiny 660cc vehicle on African epic

A serviceman and servicewoman from Moray’s two air bases are about to embark on a 6,000-mile fundraising challenge through Europe and Africa, using a tiny 660cc vehicle.
Corporal Rachael England, a dental hygienist from RAF Lossiemouth, and Ministry of Defence civil servant Steven Clark, who works in the avionics section at RAF Kinloss, will set out on July 17 to join 65 other teams in London for the Africa Rally.
The pair will embark on an ambitious drive through Europe and Africa towards their final destination in Cameroon, using a 660cc Daihatsu Cuore with a sumpguard. The challenge demands that all teams must drive a car of less than 1,000cc with limited modifications.
Each team has been asked to raise at least £1,000, half of which will go to Send a Cow, which provides poor farmers in Africa with livestock, training and advice.
Cpl England and Mr Clark have also chosen to raise funds for Frank Water Projects which helps provide clean water to under-developed areas.
Cpl England said: “We will need to find camping equipment such as a tent and cooking facilities, fuel and water containers, a small amount of spare parts and some essential tools. We will be calling on local businesses throughout the next few weeks and any help, however small, will be greatly appreciated.”
Anyone wishing to help the pair by donating supplies or by offering raffle prizes or cash can visit the team website at www.wrongwaydown.org.uk or contact 07835 592320 or 07776 238742.
