A FORMER Aberdeen Grammar School student, now studying at Gray’s School of Art, has been awarded a prestigious Royal Scottish Academy John Kinross Scholarship.

Sean Ambrose was among 10 winners invited to the academy where they were congratulated by Bill Scott, president of the RSA.

The RSA John Kinross Memorial Fund was established in 1982 by Mr JB Kinross CBE, HRSA in memory of his father, John Kinross RSA, a renowned architect who was greatly influenced by Florence, the beautiful Italian city which has been an inspiration to generations of artists and architects.

The £2,000 scholarship is intended to assist students in Scotland within the disciplines of painting, sculpture, printmaking and architecture to live and study in Florence for a period of up to three months, providing an incredible opportunity for young artists.

The RSA also arranges a galleries and museums pass for the students, allowing them free access to the city's artistic and historical treasures.

Sean said: “I am very interested in all architectural forms, but at present my focus is on industrial structures.

“The scholarship will give me a unique opportunity to broaden my experience by engaging in a culture and city that is radically different from my home city of Aberdeen.

“From the granite architecture of my home town to the warm colours of Gothic and Renaissance architecture of Florence, the inspiration I would gain is something I find incredibly exciting.”
