North-east show-goers warned not to take alcohol with them

Police urge people to use beer tent at Banff event

THE public and participants at a north-east summer show this weekend have been asked not to take their own alcohol to the event.

The annual Banffshire Show takes place on Sunday at the Duff House grounds, Banff, with a variety of family attractions.

Grampian Police appealed yesterday for people to refrain from taking drink to the popular event and to use an on-site beer tent instead. Banff-based sergeant Neil Shand said: “We are looking for people to use the beer tent at the Banffshire Show and not to take carryouts down to the grounds.

“There have been one or two problems in previous years and we want to make sure it is a safe family event to attend.

“If anybody turns up with a carryout, they will not be able to take it into the show ground and we may carry out random checks.”

Show secretary Olive Bligdon said organisers supported the plea.

The Banffshire Show, which is free to the public, gets under way at 1pm on Sunday and attractions include stalls, music, dancers, circus skills, an Army inflatable assault course and Punch and Judy.

Banff and District Round Table will also stage an It’s a Knockout competition.
