Chef hit girl with his false arm

AN INVERNESS chef assaulted his girlfriend with his false arm when she tried to end the relationship, the city’s sheriff court heard yesterday.

Christopher Gravil, 21, of Colt Cottage, Kiltarlity, also sent threatening text messages to the girl more than a month later.

He appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court for sentencing yesterday, after pleading guilty to assaulting Alison Campbell at his home on January 11 this year.

And he admitted making abusive phone calls to her on February 23.

Fiscal depute Alison Wyllie said Miss Campbell was ending the relationship due to various difficulties when Gravil lifted his artificial arm and struck her on the backside.

Solicitor Ken Ferguson said that Gravil’s mother told him he had received no counselling at the time of his amputation when he was 17 following a road accident and had undergone a “personality change” following the operation.

Sheriff Derek Pyle fined Gravil £300 for assaulting Miss Campbell, and £100 for the offensive messages.
