THE winning designs for eco-friendly shopping bags which will be distributed in Keith were announced yesterday.

Five creations were chosen from entries submitted for the Design for Keith project by pupils from St Thomas Primary and Keith Grammar School and members of Keith Arts Group and Keith Scrabble Group.

The images will be printed on reusable bags being produced as part of the Keith Regeneration Project to promote the town and tackle economic challenges.

The winning designs, which were voted for by the public, were created by Shaun Murray, 11, of St Thomas Primary; Penny Coles, 13, of Keith Grammar; Melissa Eaton, 13, of Keith Grammar and adult winners Phyllis Leitch of Keith Scrabble Group and Karen Bush of Keith Arts Group.

Moray Council arts development worker Aya Iguchi, who initiated the project, said 24 of the town’s retailers had signed up and the bags would be available in their stores.

The project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Moray Council, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
