Perth painter’s masterplan on track at age 70
Look though the years at Fair City exhibition

A PERTHSHIRE artist is to take a retrospective look at his life and career with a new exhibition in the Fair City.
Self-portraits, still-life paintings and landscapes can be seen in the display of Ian Imrie’s artworks at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.
The son of a postman who also served with the Black Watch, Mr Imrie grew up in north Perth and left Northern District School at 14.
He embarked on a variety of jobs, including a stint as an apprentice plumber.
After retiring from a 40-year career as a dealer in fine art and antiques, Mr Imrie focussed his attention on producing his own pieces of art.
The Perth exhibition marks the artist’s 70th birthday and was proposed by a group of friends and patrons, including Perthshire businesswoman Ann Gloag.
Mr Imrie said: “I paint because I have to. It is inside me and is something I simply feel driven to do.
“Painting full-time was always my masterplan, so I have no intention of slowing down. I still look for new challenges in my work and also enjoy teaching, drawing or painting.”
Ian Cuthbert Imrie – A Retrospective can be seen from tomorrow until September 27.
