Caley Thistle midfielder Iain Vigurs has started the pre-season in impressive form, much to the delight of his manager Craig Brewster.
The 20-year-old, who has been tipped by Brewster to claim a regular place in his starting 11 next season, has already scored three goals in two games against Inverurie Locos and Ross County.
After making four appearances last term and scoring once in the 6-1 thrashing of Gretna near the end of the season, Vigurs, who is entering his second season as a full professional, wants to progress further.
The Aberdonian said: “I have got off to a good start in pre-season and it is good to hear the manager is saying good things about me.
“I scored a couple of goals against Inverurie Locos and one against Ross County, so I think I am doing well.
“I am developing with each year and I am a lot stronger now which helps a lot and I think it is starting to show in my game.
“We have a lot of midfielders and the problem is they have been playing really well and it is hard to break in.
“Ian Black, Russell Duncan and Don Cowie can all play in that position.
“I have surprised myself with the amount of goals I have scored so far, as players such as Ian Black do not score many goals and to keep scoring would be a bonus and I think it would really help me push for a first-team place.”
He added: “I heard that the manager would not take in another midfielder as the younger boys were pushing through which is good.”
Vigurs, who signed a one-year deal with the club at the end of the last campaign admits he need to assert himself more on the field and said: “I have had people telling me I am laid back all my life.
“Sometimes it can be a disadvantage as it looks as if I am not trying hard, but it is just the way I come across.
“It is difficult to change, but I can be quite vocal on the field when I want to be.
“I will be pushing hard this season though, as I give my all in training and in any game I play.”
