Potter fans learn the magic of plants
University aims project at children

HARRY Potter fans discovered the magical properties of everyday plants at Duthie Park in Aberdeen yesterday.
The Hogwarts-inspired Magical Medicines event forms part of Aberdeen University’s Planet Plant project, which aims to engage youngsters in plant science.
The budding Harrys and Hermiones who attended were shown the healing powers of various plants from far-off locations, as well as the various potions and lotions they can be used to concoct.
Marie Fish, from the university’s Natural History Centre, said: “Drawing inspiration from the famous young wizard’s experiments and antics, throughout this week a host of Magical Medicines events and activities will explore the role plants play in modern-day and ancient medicine.”
The witchcraft theme continues with an exhibit showing different breeds of owls, toads and rats.
Aberdeen theatre group Live Wire Productions will also be taking its own brand of magic to the stage with special educational performances today and Thursday.
Magical Medicines continues every day until Friday from 10am-4pm at the David Welch Winter Gardens in Duthie Park. Entry is free and young children must be accompanied by an adult.
