Caley Thistle’s Barry Wilson was left bemused after being red-carded in the 1-1 draw against Lolland-Falster Alliancen on their pre-season tour.
The veteran midfielder received two bookings in the first half of the match in the southern Danish town of Nykobing Falster, yet it will not carry into the Caley Jags SPL campaign which starts on August 9 against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Despite being dismissed, the officials allowed Dougie Imrie to replace Wilson, who was caught badly by LFA captain Lasse Holmgaard in the first period, injuring his ankle.
Wilson said: “I was disappointed with how the game went. It is crazy as the referee did not show any leniency whatsoever. The first yellow card was given for the first foul in the game. He set the precedent then.
“For the second I thought I was fouled and I just threw the ball away and I have never seen anything like that in a pre-season game.
“I was probably coming off anyway but I do not think the red card will affect me, it should be fine.”
He added: “Their captain caught me with his studs right down my shin and on to my ankle.
“I will have to see how it is this morning, although I have already had ice on it.
“If anything the referee should have sent off their player as well but we did not get much out of the officials at all. Hopefully it is just bruising and swelling as I do not want to miss any of the pre-season. Everything had been going well until last night. I thought we played some decent stuff at times, although we missed two or three chances.
“Michael Fraser was a wee bit casual for their goal and we missed a couple of chances near the end.”
Inverness manager Craig Brewster was impressed with Adam Rooney, 20, who scored on his debut and said: “I said to the officials that it was not a Champions League game and the red card won’t affect Barry Wilson at all.
“It was just a friendly game and it will have no bearing on the season. Adam Rooney is not really on trial, I have invited him over to Denmark for the week and it more about seeing whether he is happy coming up to Inverness.
“We would like to take him if he agrees to it although we will see how he does during the rest of the week.
“He certainly looks the part and took his goal well – he is always in and around the penalty area. There were some really pleasing performances from the younger players – Dale Gillespie and Jamie Duff were both excellent – and it is great to see them progressing and coming through.
“Zander Sutherland will be disappointed with his performance but it is a learning process for everybody and we all have setbacks and it is about how we deal with them.”
