Simmentals make their mark

More than 70 animals battle it out for breed honours

MORE than 70 Simmentals from across Scotland took part in the breed's national show at Perth.

Overall champion Strathisla Nuggat, from Wilson and Geradine Strachan, of Mill of Balmaud, King Edward, Banff, went on to win Perth's cattle supreme.

Reserve was the stylish three-year-old heifer Corskie Star, from father and son Jimmy and Iain Green, of Corskie, Garmouth.

Star, by Burghbridge Lane and out of Corskie Blossom, was shown with January-born bull calf at foot. She was Simmental breed leader at Nairn the previous week.

Male champion: W. and G. Strachan with Strathisla Nuggat; reserve: L. D. Quarm, of Holehouse Farm, Annick Lodge, Irvine, with 18-month-old Annick Valentino, by Sterling Nelson and out of Annick Trixibelle 3rd.

Junior male champion: L. D. Quarm with Annick Valentino. Reserve: W. J. and J. Green with Corskie Valiant 2nd.

Female champion: W. J. and J. Green with Corskie Star. Reserve: W. J. and J. green with Corskie Treasure.

Junior female champion: W. J. and J. Green with Corskie Treasure. Reserve: Claire Strathern, of Foot O’ Green Farm, Whins of Milton, Stirling, with Jewel Victoria.
