Dundee United legend says sorry to fans

PLYMOUTH football manager Paul Sturrock has apologised after referring to Dundee FC as “Scumdee."

The Dundee United legend made the remark to United fans who had travelled to see their team play Sturrock's current club, Plymouth Argyle.

As a player Sturrock’s scoring exploits against city rivals Dundee made him a United legend – and fans travelled all the way to Plymouth to watch Saturday's friendly against the club that Sturrock now manages.

Half an hour after the match, he addressed the United fans who had stayed behind to see him.

It was his remarks, since posted on You Tube, that have caused a stir.

Dundee's Lord Provost described referring to Dundee FC as Scumdee as disappointing.

Last week, Paul Sturrock revealed he had been suffering from Parkinson's disease.

He touched on this when he was issuing an apology about the events of Saturday.

He said: “My remarks were entirely tongue in cheek.

“If I have offended anyone then I apologise but it was just banter, the sort of thing I've been on the receiving end of for the last 25 years whenever I've been out on the town in Dundee.

“I have no ill feeling whatsoever towards Dundee fans, and was deeply touched by the kind messages I received from them last week when I revealed I was suffering from Parkinson's disease."
