Brewster will recognise Pittodrie but not the team

INVERNESS manager Craig Brewster claims his inside knowledge of Pittodrie is redundant despite the fact he was an Aberdeen player this time last year.

Caley Thistle have played the Dons 17 times without recording a win and Brewster wants to end their bad run on the opening day of the new SPL season.

The Caley Jags manager is aware his side will face a vastly different Aberdeen team to the one he left.

He said: “I was in the opposite dressing-room a season ago and Jimmy Calderwood will have his side ready today.

“If you look at the players Aberdeen have lost since last summer, beginning with Russell Anderson – it is a strong side they have lost. Sometimes teams go through a change and Aberdeen have certainly done that.

“Barry Nicholson will be a big loss for them. He is a class player but they have brought in guys like Mark Kerr, who has been round the block and is experienced, and Gary McDonald, who has had a year or so in England. I am sure they will be confident.

“We will beat them at some point and we will be prepared for today – there are no excuses.

“Aberdeen have home advantage and it is up to us to cope with that and cause them problems.”

Defender David Proctor is suspended for today’s match after being sent off against St Mirren in the last game of the previous campaign.

Inverness have no injuries in their squad which will include a higher proportion of younger players than in previous seasons.

Brewster added: “I am excited about this season and I am looking forward to seeing how the players develop over the next year.

“I think now we have a real blend of youth and experience.

“I don’t know if I will play one of the younger ones today but, if called upon, they will be ready.”
