Chance to take part in hip-hop opera in Dundee
it will be followed by evening performance

HIP-HOP beats are to merge with the strains of classical music at an event in Dundee this weekend.
A workshop exploring dance, music, DJ-ing and lyric writing is to take place at Dundee College. Funded by the Scottish Arts Council, the Urban Opera Workshop is aimed at anyone who is passionate about music, dance, and beatbox.
Young people, aged between 18 and 25, have the chance to take part in the music project, which takes inspiration from hip-hop and mixes with classical opera.
The workshop at the college’s dance centre, The Space, will be followed by an evening performance by Urban Opera.
A spokesman for the group said: “The Urban Opera Workshop was born out of a personal development programme launched last year in Glasgow.
“Young people were encouraged to explore a range of music-making activities that equipped them with the skills to write and stage their own performance.
“Supported by a specialist team of mentors, they developed characters, scenes and present-day narrative while composing and producing the music.”
The workshop and performance will take place at The Space on Saturday. To book a place visit www.urbanopera.org.uk
