CHILDREN from an Aberdeen primary school are rehearsing for a performance that will be used to launch a new book of Doric poetry.

Riverside Primary pupils will perform the story of a creature called Crocorattie, who ventures through Tillydrone in one of the poems in new book Fit Like, Yer Majesty?

They will be at the book’s launch at Fyvie Castle on September 11, along with children from other north-east schools who will also be bringing the poems to life.

Also present at the launch will be MSP Maureen Watt who has written a foreword to the book.

It contains 47 Doric poems by writers aged between 14-92 and vibrant illustrations from artist Bob Dewar.

Author Sheena Blackwell, who helped the Riverside pupils rehearse, said: “It is a book for all seasons, all ages, and all those who love the Scots language. There’s everything here from city moggies to Fyvie ghosties. This is destined to become a much-used, much-loved book.”
