ABERDEEN’S most famous football son returned to his roots last night to help his hometown club in its quest to bring through the next generation of talented young players.

Denis Law was the main attraction at the Dons’ annual gala dinner at the city’s exhibition and conference centre.

Law’s presence helped attract 600 guests to the event and raised thousands of pounds for the Pittodrie youth development programme.

Lynne Duncan, head of sales and marketing at AFC, said: “The dinner was a huge success and all of our 600 guests appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves throughout the course of the evening. The entertainment was brilliant and all the speeches went down very well with the crowd.

“Most importantly, we hope to have raised a generous amount of money which will go towards the youth academy.”

Willie Allan was the other speaker last night, with broadcaster Rob McLean acting as the master of ceremonies.
