Scottish Ballet’s edgy show

ABERDEEN was treated to a challenging and diverse evening of dance performed by the Scottish Ballet company last night.
A sellout crowd sat captivated in HM Theatre as the dancers worked their way through three very different acts.
The opening performance, entitled Ride the Beast, was a fast-paced show choreographed to the music of popular band Radiohead.
The audience were treated to an energetic show combining modern and classical techniques and a host of eyebrow-raising outfits.
Dancers provided a colourful feast for the eyes, making it impossible for the audience to take in the entire scene at one time.
The second, highly-contemporary piece was a puzzle to the untrained eye and provoked a buzz of debate in the interval.
A challenging and often uncomfortable soundtrack incorporated sounds from everyday life, from the buzzing of a fly to the noises of industry.
A frivolous 1920s party scene for the third and final performance left the crowd smiling as they departed from the theatre.
The Scottish Ballet company show was enough to separate even the most naive viewer of the impression that ballet is nothing more than tutus and classical music. Performers will take to the stage once again tonight in the last night of a Scottish tour. For more information go to www.scottishopera.org. uk
