Ellon grab eight tries in easy victory over strugglers

meadows men let big lead slip but coach happy with result

Ellon were worthy 53-27 winners in their eight-try romp against lowly Livingston, but serious questions must be asked of the Aberdeenshire side which allowed a 44-13 lead after 45 minutes to slip.

Head coach Kevin Wyness was, however, reasonably happy with the run out against a West Lothian side which is almost certainly confined to the drop to the national leagues. “We got our drills right in the first half which enabled us to take command, but fell off the pace in the second half. Going half an hour without scoring a point was unacceptable,” said Wyness who was, nevertheless, pleased with some individual contributions, including number eight Eddie Theron.

“Eddie was the man of the match, but Neil Douglas and Eddie Adie had good games in the centre.

“Once again our two props Bobby Kenny and Nicki Fraser were key to the win,” said Wyness, who had the bonus of seeing his side pull clear of the relegation zone in Premiership 3, albeit at the expense of a limited visiting team which was nothing if not brave.

Once again stand off Mark Ryan was among the points, scoring a try, five conversions and a penalty to register a personal haul of 18.

Ellon’s other scores came from winger Mark Leibrum with two scorching tries, flankers Scott Johnston and Jamie Rupar were also on the scoresheet, as were centres Douglas and Adie and scrum half Andy Baird who had a mixed day with his touch down, combined with an injury, forcing him from the field.
